Identity ON THE US/MEXICO BORDER

This essay argues that the community that crosses the US/ Mexico border everyday, known as Transfronterizos, are physical extensions of the border itself as their identity is defined by the national discourse about the border at that given time.

This essay draws upon algorithmic theories such as the deep border and explores artworks by Tanya Aguiñiga and Simon Denny to argue that this group of people are feature spaces themselves which makes them a walking, perpetual site of political friction as they are too American for the Mexicans and too Mexican for the Americans. This makes them an extension of the wall, not in the metaphorical sense, but in the physical and digital sense as they are socially stateless.
